University residences which are generally full of first year undergraduates are a great way to adjust to living away from home and making new friends. Uni halls are usually located close to campus.
Generally offer a higher level of amenities than University Halls, at higher rents. Will be home to a more diverse mix of students and normally located close to campus.
A house share with a group of friends is often the lowest cost option and popular as the next step after living in Halls. Typically located in student friendly areas which require some travel to University.
A flat or apartment is similar to a house share on a smaller scale and will normally have one or two bedrooms. Ideal for smaller groups or couples.
Either a premium room in a Private Hall of Residence or a self-contained flat or apartment where all of the amenities are in one space. Typically the most expensive option.
A room in a house where the landlord or owner currently lives. A good option if you are not too concerned about living with other students and are budget conscious.

Cambridge is well known for being the home of the prestigious University of Cambridge – which is actually a confederation of Colleges, Departments, Faculties and Schools. Most students look for shared housing in Cambridge from October, although there will be student accommodation available all year round. First year and international students generally start looking in January for halls of residence.
The amount you pay will depend on the type of student accommodation you choose. A shared house in Cambridge will cost you £86 per week. A halls of residence will cost, on average £211 per week, but could cost more depending on what type of room you select.
Accommodation for Students has the widest range of student accommodation currently available in Cambridge. This includes halls of residence, house shares, flats and apartments. In Cambridge the standard length of contract is 46 weeks. However it is possible to have a longer or shorter agreement than this. Some halls of residence will only offer a 50 or 52 week tenancy agreement for example.
Yes, a selection of the student accommodation listed on AFS will offer short term stays. This is most often the case for halls of residence in Cambridge. Look out for the properties which have the short term let badge or filter your search by ‘letting period’.
This will depend on the type of property you choose. The most anyone can legally charge is 5 weeks rent. Some accommodation in Cambridge halls of residence will not require a deposit at all, while on average the deposit in a shared house in Cambridge will be £344.
